I am interested in services. What can I expect from the process?

Haven will always individualize all services to meet the needs of each family's unique situation. First, you will book your free consultation. Haven will send you paperwork to complete before the initial 30 minute phone call. Following the phone call, Haven will present you with recommended options for services and pricing. Then, you and Haven will work together to identify a plan of care that all parties agree on and are comfortable with. Seeking support from Haven is a partnership, and your input is critical in developing the best plan of care for you and your family.

Does Haven Coping accept insurance?

No. Haven is currently only private pay. It is possible for you to personally attempt reimbursement through health insurance.

How do I know if Haven Coping can help me?

Per the Association of Child Life Professionals, "In both healthcare and community settings, Certified Child Life Specialists help infants, children, youth and families cope with the stress and uncertainty of acute and chronic illness, injury, trauma, disability, loss and bereavement. They provide evidence-based, developmentally and psychologically appropriate interventions including therapeutic play, preparation for procedures, and education to reduce fear, anxiety, and pain." Trauma can also be a result of significant life changes, such as divorce. Contact Haven to discuss your personal situation, and Haven will be able to either provide services to address your concern or refer your family to the professional organization or clinician that can.

What are some examples of services Haven Coping provides?

  • Memory-making and legacy-building when a loved one receives a terminal illness. Creating tangible keepsakes for family and friends - such as fingerprint trees, locks of hair, scrapbooking, letter writing, hand print art crafts, recorded books and stories, recipe books, etc.

  • Emotional expression activities; providing avenues for children to express those big feelings that they cannot name, often through art, journaling/ discussion prompts or play.

  • Empowering families through education; knowledge is power, and honesty is the most valuable tool in strengthening and uniting families during challenging times. There is no such thing as a silly question; we will all learn together.

  • Medical play for young children to normalize their medical procedures, hospitalizations, and diagnosis. Play is the language of children; providing them with the medical equipment to explore is key in preparation and anxiety reduction.

  • Assisting with anticipatory grief, presence during the active dying process, funeral planning and beyond; an end-of-life doula is here to support you during the dying process.

  • Including the whole family in play, discussion, preparation, interventions and education sessions. The patient is not the only one who needs guidance and support.

  • Visiting the classroom of your child who has a new diagnosis, injury or disability; educating the class, answering questions and addressing misconceptions to help ease the transition for your child.

  • All interventions will be individualized to each family. Haven is honored to walk with you on your journey.
